Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most popular herb?

In the United States, basil is the most often utilized herb. Italian basil is peppery and has a subtle anise flavour. It is sweeter than purple basil. The versatility of sweet green basil may be seen in cuisines from Italy (basil pesto) and Southeast Asia (green chicken curry).

What is allspices?

The dried, unripened fruit of the myrtle pepper tree, or pimento, native to Jamaica and most of Central America, is known as allspice. The berries are fermented momentarily before being sun-dried until brown. Allspice is a single-ingredient seasoning with a unique flavour that is sometimes mistaken for a combination of spices.

What is the most popular spice in the US?

The most prevalent spice imports in the United States are vanilla beans, black, white, and chile peppers, sesame seed, cinnamon, mustard, and oregano, with cumin, paprika, and turmeric gaining popularity in recent years.

What are the oldest herbs?

Gingko is a vital herb in Chinese medicine and one of the oldest tree species. It is also one of the earliest homoeopathic herbs. The leaves are used to make capsules, pills, and extracts, and can also be used to make tea when dried. Its capacity to improve brain health is likely its most well-known feature.

Is Basil a herb or spice?

Basil, rosemary, and parsley are common spices in kitchens, yet they are aromatic leaves and hence qualify as herbs. Because spices are derived from crushed sections of plants that are particularly high in essential oils, they have a stronger flavour than herbs.
